Driving home from Bradley today, I saw a very interesting sight. A young girl was carrying her male companion's bookbag in addition to her own. Remember the days when boys carried girls' books home? (Yeah, me neither). This, however, was a completely modern twist on chivalry. But then I had to question - were these children merely participating in the modern views on gender roles? OR are our ideas about gender roles simply childish?

Personally... I would have thought that the sight was a beautiful one... she obviously knows that she, too can do nice things for the on she cares about... just because he's a boy doesn't mean he has to carry all the heavy shit, right...?
She hasn't been all that poisoned by gender expectation yet... or maybe she has... and is rebelling...
How thoughtful of the girl. I'm sure the boy felt privileged to have someone so sweet to carry his book bag. It's always reassuring to see people doing kind things for one another, whatever the age.
